<itunes:summary>Today is the 10 year anniversary of one of the greatest guest-appearances ever between Widespread Panic and Gov’t Mule: on a Sunday in Montgomery, Alabama, 7-20-1997. If you haven’t heard this show from a decade ago, stream the 2 mp3′s here on my blog (click “Play In Pop-Up” at the top of the post) to hear the epic high peaks of the show:

Widespread Panic with special guests Gov't Mule destroyed the Montgomery Civic Center in 1997
First is Gov’t Mule’s encore, with WSP sitting in, from 7-20-1997, Montgomery Civic Center.
To download the mp3 to your computer, Right-Click, Save As…. where it says “Download” (above)

Gov’t Mule (Warren, Matt, Allen) with JB, Houser, Schools, Sunny, Jojo
I Shall Be Released*
I cleaned up the audio a little bit and saved it as 320kbps mp3
        * on the “I Shall Be Released” mp3
        * Listen to HOUSER take a solo from 3:20 to 4:12
        * and then JB sings a verse from 4:12 to 4:47
        * that minute-and-a-half is SO PANIC
        * at 5:19 Warren calls for “Jojo” to take the lead
        * at 6:25 That’s Allen Woody you hear on mandolin. Schools played the bass.
        * at 8:33 JB takes the lead vocals again ~ and changes up the words a bit ~ beautiful. With THIS and the Amazing Grace JB sings later in the night, this is really a peak Sunday show for John Bell.
Next – Here is WSP’s post-Drums in second set, with Gov’t Mule sitting in, from Sunday 7-20-1997, Montgomery.
Right-Click, Save As…. and you’ll get the file,

Widespread Panic with Gov’t Mule (Allen Woody on mandolin, Matt Abts on timbales, Warren Haynes on guitar)
SUNDAY 7-20-97 Montgomery Civic Center
Nobody’s Fault But Mine* >
Amazing Grace* (!) >
Nobody’s Fault But Mine* (!!) >
Feelin’ Alright*

all on one track ~ 19 minutes
SBD 256kbps mp3
        * 00:27 Warren Haynes, Dave Schools, JB and Mike Houser drop this show into a conversation of blues, starting Nobody’s Fault But Mine which builds up and breaks down, then…
        * 07:11 ….JB’s brief but beautiful Amazing Grace (!) falls perfectly back into…
        * 08:01 to 09:16 ….an apocalyptic ending jam (!!) for Nobody’s Fault But Mine, with Nance / Sunny / Abts thunder roll into a devestating dual layered lead from Haynes and Houser.
        * 09:32 jam into Feelin’ Alright
        * 16:32 The dual lead guitar peak is back towards the climax of Feelin’ Alright.
        * 18:27 The whole ending is just epic with everyone on at once… cathartic
By this point in the show the 2 bands had virtually destroyed Mongomery Civic Center. 10 Years Later, in 2007 the city of Montgomery actually undertook tearing down part of the building, which is the basis of the animated GIF file I made to illustrate this post.
If you want to know why, or what I like about WSP and Mule and the way they combined older music in new ways for some of the most exciting concerts of the 1990′s, just listen to these mp3 examples. –Dgold</itunes:summary>

Check back later for more details, pix, vids and mp3′s

I’ve invited special guests to the radio show for June 12. …. members of Tea Leaf Green will play acoustic
with a special guest from Railroad Earth.
LEAFERS: If you have a question for the band (or a response to the radio show) you can Post a Comment here… looking for interesting fan-questions, anything you want to know about the music. (We ended up asking 2 of the fan-questions: about Can You Guess It?, The Garden sequence, and the “last chance gas station” lyric that appears in Forgiven, Incandescent Devil, and is related to Gasaholic by Trevor and Tea Leaf Green.)

Trevor Garrod from Tea Leaf Green plays acoustic guitar and sings
You’ll hear the exact configuration of musicians on the broadcast. This could be one of the most unique acoustic appearances we’ve had on Honest Tunes . I’ll try to record it but it would be great if a Listener could try to capture the webcast as well (Thanks crazyed).
After the radio show, on Tuesday June 12, 2007, Railroad Earth headlines with very special guests Tea Leaf Green returning to George’s Majestic Lounge on Dickson Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for what promises to be an amazing long night of music. The 2 bands collaborated recently on JamCruise, and at Wakarusa this past weekend (Andy and Tim both jammed with TLG). They are good friends and admirers of one another’s music, despite drawing on different aspects of live rock and roots to craft their unique sounds. RRE is a more acoustic and bluegrass oriented band, while Tea Leaf Green is a louder electric rock band with folk underpinnings. The mixture of the 2 is something to behold, something new and breakthrough.
By the way, Railroad Earth has joined us for an interview on KXUA a couple years ago (watch the Slideshow in the sidebar for pictures of that!). TLG hasn’t been up there yet before 6-12-07, although we spin their CD’s all the time on the radio show and they’ve played at the legendary Chester’s Place and at George’s before.
From crazyed, who recorded the webcast remotely and did a great favor circulating this while I was at Bonnaroo: “Same show just 2 different links if one gives you problems.” (The links are probably cashed out by now, and the same show is available on dgold.info/radio as a podcast mp3, and coming soon to Archive.org in FLAC hopefully -DG)

The trouble for a DJ is how to pronounce Alex Machacek’s name?
Excerpt of Alex Mchacek interview from All About Jazz

Alex Machacek: I was born on 1st July1972 in Tulln, Austria…so that makes me…30! I am originally from the Czech Republic. My parents came to this country as refugees in the mid ’60s. That’s where my name comes from…which is probably hard to pronounce for people who’s mother tongue is English.
AAJ: How did you first get into music?
AM: I started at the age of 8 by taking classical guitar lessons for six years at a music school in Vienna.

AAJ: Who were your first influences, as a musician, and more specifically, on guitar?
AM: Brian May and Queen, later Mark Knopfler, Ritchie Blackmore (as a kid/teenager), Joe Pass, Mike Stern, John Scofield, and John Abercrombie (around the age of 15 -17), Holdsworth, John Mc Laughlin, Scott Henderson, Chick Corea, Zappa, Wayne Krantz, Wes Montgomery, Joe Zawinul and so many others.</itunes:summary>
