Tune in to 88.3 FM - KXUA Fayetteville

http://www.kxua.com
University of Arkansas student radio

Honest Tunes was established by Daniel and Michael in 1999, and went on-the-air in 2000 with the launch of KXUA student radio. In 2001, Adam co-hosted the show with Daniel. In 2002, Scooter joined Honest Tunes. In 2003, John-Garrett joined Honest Tunes. In 2004, Elizabeth Mattocks joined Honest Tunes.

We based the show-title on a quote from "Driving Song" by Widespread Panic, and we share the name with An Honest Tune magazine, the Southern Journal of Jam.

What is "Jambands and Roots"? We explore today's best new live and improvisational bands, and connect it to the roots music of earlier times. From up-and-coming jambands and improv rock to their deepest musical roots in jazz, blues, and bluegrass, Honest Tunes reverberate in your soul.

Who have y'all interviewed on the show? Honest Tunes is well-known for our interview-series, featuring artists like Vince of Leftover Salmon, Houseman from Galactic, Jeff from Yonder Mountain String Band, Chuck and Vinnie from moe., The Codetalkers, Robert Bradley, Tony Furtado, Derek Trucks, Steve Kimock, Robert Randolph, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Carlos Washington, Larry, The Kudzu Kings, Sun Cured Red, Mountain of Venus, Umphrey's McGee, Particle, Sound Tribe Sector 9, New Monsoon, Zilla, Big Smith, Cary Hudson, Shanti Groove, Papa Mali, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, and many more. We've been thrilled to have these guests in the KXUA studios for extended interviews and some acoustic performances, live on-the-air.

Educationals and Artist Features: The famous "educational portion" of Honest Tunes highlights the same song played twice back to back - first the original version, then a well-known cover version by Widespread Panic, Phish, Grateful Dead, and others. Special artist-features or new-album spotlights bring diversity to our weekly format.
