The peaks and valleys of this jaunt through the Garden take the listener to a different level entirely. What starts off slowly with a dark undercurrent transforms into a whirlwind crying guitar riff that screams for the listeners to run full speed ahead, as if to catch up. Over hill and under tree limb, the song ventures though the ferns and willows surrounding this vast growing, living space and climbs to breakneck speeds of sound colliding, crescendos filling ear, mind, body, and soul….. until it ends, all too abruptly, all too swiftly.
This is the middle song from the Trilogy named The Garden: the only instrumental in the group, and always, always, heartwarming and crowd pleasing.

I like how G2 starts and ends with a kind of “for whom the bell tolls” section.

The Garden II is an anthemic wild ride journey through the Tea Leaf Green kingdom which clearly shows their prowess for extended instrument rockers.
My favorite version is likely from 10/8/04 at the Area 51 Sound Test in Indian Spings, NV – sandwiched between G1 and G3, this Garden 2 peaks out with a triumphant blaze of glory.
This song gets 5 of out 5 on the fist pumping scale.

I’m in the process of completing a dissertation on Garden II for my Ph.D. in Advanced Psychedelia, so allow me to chime in.
Garden II is perfection; it is a signature piece for TLG; it takes you where they want you to go.
A few of my favorites:
2-29-08, taped by our own Brew, is both a Reed GII and a Shakedown tease GII; don’t let the incredible bass riffs scare you, you’ll be ok.

9-24-04, a great GII from one of the greatest TLG shows. Listen to the entire 1st set, if you’re still able to post come back and tell us about it. Pure heat.

4-2-08, the only time I’ve seen it live (out of 4); alas, was not recorded.
