Ten Billion Years

The moon is just a hunk of stone
Sculpted by a lover’s hand
She’ll never shine while she’s alone
Or turn her back to us on land
ALT: To us in land and in the heaven

These inner stellar ocean gulfs
Are turbulent with storms unknown
Time is only space transversed
By waves of radio alone

And it took 10 billion years
To look across the void
It took 10 billion years
To find a friend

I heard them say it all might end
By fire, ice or some bad decision
We all just melt into one
Where it all begins again
ALT: but friends we will all melt into one
where it will begin again in the end

And it took 10 billion years
To look across the void
It took 10 billion years
To find a friend

And it took 10 billion years
To look across the void
It took 10 billion years
To find a friend
To find a friend
To find a friend

  1. Petronis Says:

For what it’s worth, the fourth stanza is clearly inspired by Robert Frost’s “Fire and Ice,” which was reportedly inspired by an astronomer’s theories as to how the world will end:
