Ride Together

Let’s all ride together
to my friend’s house on the hill
Let’s all ride together
We got one tank to fill

If money is a problem
We’ll sell what we don’t need
and close our eyes in happiness
We’re gonna sleep beneath the weeds
sleep beneath the weeds
sleep beneath the weeds

My friends all laugh at me
Say I got good eyes but I still don’t see
Why that world keeps crumbling
We got good cards but the wrong man’s dealing

My friend be sure to feed us
At his house up on that hill
With corned beef he’s a genius
And his vegetables are known to thrill

So come on and let’s all ride together
We’ll wind down through the pines
If that road gets treacherous
Pretend that we don’t mind
Pretend that we don’t mind
Pretend that we don’t mind

My friends all laugh at me
Say I got good eyes but I still don’t see
why that world keeps crumbling
Oh, I got good cards but the wrong man’s dealin’

I think this song speaks on two levels. Outside, it evokes the desire to leave life behind and travel. However, I believe there is a deeper message here. “Lets all ride together” could be a metaphor for peace. I read these lyrics as a calling to the people of the world to come together and realize the beauty of simplicity. (“Sleeping beneath the weeds.”) The man in this story can see the opportunity of peace, however he is unable to take the first step and realize what is really wrong with the world. (“Say I got good eyes but I still don’t see, why that world keeps crumbling.”) Finally, the line, “Oh, I got good cards but the wrong man’s dealin’.” could be asserting that while he sees the simplicity of peace, the wrong people are in charge of getting us there. Unbelievable song, Trevor blows my mind daily. :trevor:
