Rapture
The rapture is coming
I feel the touch
a warm hand is on me
(alt: of a cold hand upon me)
Life is gettin’ rough
I am on the inside
I have been without
I’m a gambler with no bank roll
a hobo smilin’ at the sunrise
a fool has gone hitchin’
he can’t get out of town
cuz the lawman tracked him down
he’s got a silver tooth
it glimmers while he speaks
(alt: it’s gleeming when he speaks)
he hasn’t spoke in weeks
cuz the rapture is coming
I feel the touch
a warm hand is on me
life is gettin’ rough
I am on the inside
I have been without
I’m a gambler with no bank roll
a hobo smilin’ at the sunrise
He’s got a gilded mistress
He kept her in a cage
until she got away
(alt: she kept him in a cage, until he got away)
She has got another
a lawman by his trade
just a few miles down the way
the rapture is coming
I feel the touch
a warm hand is on me
life is gettin’ rough
I am on the inside
I have been without
I’m a gambler with no bank roll
a hobo smilin’ at the sunrise
A broken rib is better
than a busted heart
tearin’ you apart
cuz the rapture is coming
I feel the touch
a warm hand is on me
life is gettin’ rough
I am on the inside
i have been without
I’m a gambler with no bank roll
A hobo smilin’ at the sunrise
The rapture is coming
I feel the touch
a warm hand is on me
Life is gettin’ rough
I am on the inside
I have been without
I’m a gambler with no bank roll
A hobo smilin’ at the sunrise

After the “busted heart is better” lyric was sung, fans discussed whether there was a change being introduced in the song. Over time, without repeat of that version, I have grown to believe it was an “oops”, a mistake at first, seemlessly covered-up by Trevor’s ability to ad-lib within the song structure extemporaneously. The official lyrics as printed with the album can be found here: http://www.tealeafgreen.com/ly.....hp#rapture. I like Tgardner’s transcription better because it show some of the alternate lyrics that Trevor throws in from time to time.

In almost every version i’ve heard I hear the lyrics as this everytime…”He’s got a silver tooth, that [Sparkles] when he speaks…”
C’mon, Sprinkles, you should have caught that in your transcription! ; )

{original verse}
“a broken rib is better
than a busted heart
tearin’ you apart”
{alt: one time only, April 2005; I hear (you) instead of (I) but same thing.}
“a busted heart is better
than a broken rib
don’t know what you did”
I love that flub in all it’s serindipidious glory. Truth that even T’s ad-lib spontanaiety unfolds into beautiful poetry. Feel the rapture.

Ok, I can’t find this anywhere…
What’s the chord run between the verse leading into the chorus? It sounds like it would be close to A->Bsus4->C->D, but that’s not quite right.
Anyone have a clue?

sugapablo, I think it is just a note run rather than a chord run. It is the first 4 notes of the A scale. You could play the chords A Bm C#m D, but it probably sounds better just playing the notes A B C# D instead.
