after the south has spit us out again
but we’re all still in love with California
it’s only when I’m headed west
I’m broken down in need of rest

I pulled her down beneath an oak

The birds drove me crazy

like a disc of blazing fire
and soon we started walking
through the brambles our legs were scratching
I was wishing for a bed to sleep in
to close my tired eyes
before the sun rose
