Keeping the Faith
Who knows how many years I’ve been traveling
Traveling this country’s roads
Singing for my supper, singing for a lover
Singing for that pot of gold
And over the years
I’ve been just about everywhere
Seen everything with my own eyes
Most everybody never gets anywhere
They’re born the same place they die
Keeping the faith
In some other place
Keeping the faith
Been moving on
We have all run away to the circus
The circus calls/draws us away
Lured by the light
In the night how it fights the inevitable, oh
At it never gets old the when the darkness surrounds us
The darkness never gets old
Learning to savor the favors of midnight
They can keep you warm
Keeping the faith
Some other place
Keeping the faith
I’m moving on
Yes I’m moving on
Yeah I’m moving on
[jam]
Ringmaster bellows
Just like his fellows
Lions in the cage
Eying the children
Pacing and snarling
Getting ready to grace the stage
Clowns do their rounds
Laughter abounds
Strike up the band
Watch the ponies’ (party’s?) parade
Dancing the two-step
Dancing a cake-walk
Singing a honky-tonk refrain!
[jam]
Working for peanuts
Living off hard luck
The painted/But, baby the show must go on
We’ll raise up our tent
In a town that will have us
Or else, we’re moving on
Keeping the faith
Some other place
Keeping the faith
I’m moving on
Yes I’m moving on
I’m moving on

Debuted by Tea Leaf Green on 2/29/08 at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and to date (as of May 8, 2008) only played once more in Amsterdam on 3/17/08, this song was first played in public by Trevor, solo, playing at Mojito’s in San Francisco. The solo gig was an opener for Al Howard. Trevor’s first presentation of this song was just days after the band announced that Ben Chambers, Tea Leaf Green’s original bassist, was leaving. “Keeping the Faith,” what a nice message for us fans in that time of uncertainty!
Keeping the Faith is widely anticipated to be on the soon-to-be-released studio album.
Word variations appear in this transcription with slashes separating them. Parentheses with a question mark mean I am uncertain of the word, precisely. Maybe the new album will have liner notes…?!

“Keeping the faith
In some other place
Keeping the faith
Been moving on”
this line interests me. i don’t know the situation, but it must have taken a lot of courage for Ben C to leave.
Ben moving on
