If It Wasn’t For The Money

If it wasn’t for the money
I’d be on that/the train already
If it wasn’t for your lovin’
I’d be out there on the street

And if I took my chances
I’m sure I could keep it steady
Steady friend until the end
You keep me on my feet

I was conceived by manuals
By articles and books
But nothin’ there is magical
It’s just as it looks

And they say the truth’s statistical
But we all know they lie
So let us lie together
Lie together beneath the sky

Oh I’m seeking opportunity
Take me by the hand
Show me where I’m goin’
Show me who I am

All I need’s a drop of water
I’m a seed born on the wind
I was once a flower
And I’ll be a flower again

I was once a flower
And I’ll be a flower again

In regards to the Bbm…in the first verse I think the Bbm fits, but in the other verses I generally use Bm.

  3. Evan Says:

the Bbm in the 4th line sounds like a B to me. Just my opinion, tho. Well done overall.

  4. madhatter1o6 Says:

My favorite part of this song is the last two verses and especially the final lines. It helps you know that things will be good, that good times will come again even when things are down. It’s a great song to listen to when good times are followed by bad times.

Also, this song is just one more example of one of the many reasons why I love Tea Leaf Green, because they have the ability to really speak to your soul and personal experiences.

  5. Lunne Says:

I adore this song completely. Every time I listen to it, I get caught, as if by a spell. This is the kind of music that makes music what it is. Great.

Rock on, TLG. :scotty: :josh: :trevor: :ben:

*I find it pretty funny that Ben is the only smiley of the four that doesn’t have an instrument*

  6. Jake Says:

This song, more that any other, really seems to sneak up on you, and then hit you directly in the soul.

    All I need’s a drop of water
I’m a seed born on the wind
    I was once a flower
And I’ll be a flower again

The first time I heard this line at a live show I actually cried!
Anybody else feel like if you got that one chance, that you could still be all that you should be?

This is hands-down my favorite lyric of any song.

Also, add the reference one can draw from The Grateful Dead Franklin’s Tower Lines, ” Wildflower seed on the sand and wind, May the four winds blow you home again.”

Thank You for writing songs that have meaning!
