Listener notes: 3 Comments on “Hot Dog”

  1. Sparkle Says:

This song qualifies as an “instrumental” because what is sung is scat rather than words, despite the apparent similarity to words as recognized by the novice listener. Try several versions of this song and it becomes evident.

  2. Dgold Says:

Yea! Hot Dog serves like some of TLG’s biggest jam songs with extended instrumental passages both composed and improvised.

“Hot Dog” is one of the top songs for guest musicians sitting in cuz it’s great to jam out on. Hence the title, perhaps: Hot Dogging / showin’ out. Example,
June 17, 2005 Hot Dog w/ Steve Molitz from Particle on dvd camera and keyboard; November 8, 2002 and July 23, 2005 (and others) Hot Dog w/ Rick Clifford from the Pulsators on sax; September 27, 2002 Hot Dog w/ Sean Leahy (guitar) and Mike Pitre (pocket trumpet) of Boomshanka; etc.
