Greta Ties Up Horses
Greta ties up horses for a living
She ain’t so good at singing
but she’ll make a melody out
She lives up on a porch made for sitting
And I swear I’m not kidding ‘cuz she’s never lying down
If you want to try, you just might catch her
But you’ll never see her after she wants to be alone
When she comes around the horses nip her
And their tails swish and flicker up and down the barn
Greta ties up horses for a living
She slaps ‘em and forgives ‘em when they mess around
She knows all of the knots that she’s tying
Without even trying, she’s got ‘em memorized
She’s meaner than a whip that’s been a-lashing
Or a spur that’s been slashing from her cowgirl boots I’m told
If you’re lucky, you just might see her smiling
After she’s been out riding old Bessie on the ridge
Oh Greta ties, Greta ties, Greta ties up horses
Greta ties up horses in the barn
When I’m talking Greta never listens
It’s like I’m not existing though I see her everyday
I feed ‘em from the hay truck I’ve been rolling
Every evening every morning, and the summer’s almost done
Greta won’t be staying through the winter
Yeah, the thought just makes me shiver
She’s going away to school
When she’s back in May she’ll be a woman
And this farm-boy won’t be doing anything for her
Oh Greta ties, Greta ties, Greta ties up horses
Greta ties up horses in the barn
Greta ties, Greta ties, Greta ties up horses
Greta ties up horses in the barn
Oh Greta ties, Greta ties, Greta ties up horses
Greta ties up horses in the barn
Greta ties, Greta ties, Greta ties up horses
Greta ties up horses in the barn! (in the barn)
