Dreaming Without Sleeping

I’ve been dragged from this/a river
And thrown into a well
After battlin the currents
and coughing up/on the water in my lungs

I’m descending in the darkness
of the earth’s hidden reservoirs
(And) I’ll be sleeping well tonight
that’s for sure

(oh) There ain’t no use in trying
to find the line that’s tying
the bucket to the top of the shaft

(I’m) sinking, I’m dissolving
and the sunlight is evolving
into creatures of my mind and of my life

I see countries, kingdoms castles,
and alabaster statues and broken bits of poetry to sing
And when I am awokened
I will try to recall my dream

I’ve been dragged from this river
(And) I’ve been saved and (then) lost again
Cuz it’s dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping
(Oh) yeh, it’s dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping
(Oh) yeh, it’s dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping

(Oh I’m/I’ve been) jumpin from the boulders
that have fallen from the shoulders
Of the mountain(s) to the river(s) below

(And) I caught/found a feather driftin
cross this river sands a shiftin
And I put it in the leather of my cap

Perhaps it can/will protect me
or else it just might curse me
But I couldn’t/could-never know a thing like that

Cuz/Oh its dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping
(Oh) yeh, it’s dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping
(Oh) yeh, it’s dangerous (this) dreaming without sleeping

from despair and grief, to a rebirth of sorts, finding a “feather” that gives hope.
