A Sailor’s Song
Sailors sing songs of seas
Miners dwell dark and deeps
But both sing songs major keys
The Miner keeps what the sailors leave
Sometimes I feel my home is a boat
I had a miner’s gal but I never wrote
A letter to my love, not even a note
I told her never ever to give up hope
Cuz the last few days I’ve been asleep
And drunk or dreaming for half a week
And I gone distance too far to speak
And I’m prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
That my soul
My soul will keep
I gave my gal a carnival ring
She said daddy it’d turn her fingers green
Next time I know that I’ve got to bring
the best the world is offering
Cuz the last few days I’ve been asleep
I’ve been drunk or dreaming for half a week
And I gone distance too far to speak
And I’m prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
That my soul
My soul will keep
Ocean shores and reservoirs
One half dozen apple cores
And mere mountians and valley floors
Truck stop stops and quick stores
cuz if misforture should drag me down
Check my pockets when I’m found
Boat may sink I may drown
There’s no telling what I am bringin around
Cuz the last few days I’ve been asleep
I’ve been drunk or dreaming for half a week
And I gone distance too far to speak
And I’m prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
Prayin’ to the lord
That my soul
My soul will keep
